Repair PDF is designed for the annoying cases: a PDF that fails to open, shows blank pages, refuses to print, or triggers viewer errors like “damaged” or “cannot be displayed.” This tool runs locally in your browser (no uploads), and generates a fresh, healthy PDF you can download.

Choose the right method: Auto, Fast, or Deep

Auto (recommended)

Auto tries a text-preserving repair first, and only switches to a deeper rebuild if needed. Use this for most PDFs because it usually keeps selectable text and links.

Fast repair (preserve text)

Fast repair re-saves the PDF while keeping its text structure whenever possible. Use this when your PDF opens but behaves badly (printing issues, minor corruption, “cannot render some content”).

Deep repair (rebuild pages)

Deep repair renders each page and rebuilds the PDF from page images. This is the “last resort” option that often fixes severely broken files, but it can remove selectable text and clickable links because the output becomes image-based.

Password-protected PDFs

If your PDF asks for a password in Acrobat/Chrome, enter that same password here. The password is case-sensitive (for example, snap is different from SNAP).

If Fast can’t open the file due to encryption, switch to Deep and enter the password.
If the password is wrong, the tool will stop and show an error (nothing is “uploaded” or leaked).

Quality settings (Deep mode)

Deep repair has two output formats. Pick based on what matters most:

PNG: best for crisp text in scans, diagrams, stamps, and QR codes (bigger file).
JPG: smaller file, good for photo-heavy scans (receipts/photos), but can soften tiny text.

Tips that usually work well:

Render scale: 1.4–1.8 for most files; 2.0+ only if you really need sharpness.
JPG quality: 0.85–0.95 if your PDF contains small text or codes.
If your output looks too large, lower the scale slightly before reducing JPG quality—scale impacts sharpness more.

Common issues and fixes

1) “Deep repair failed to open PDF”

Try these steps in order:

Switch Method to Auto first (it may succeed without rebuilding).
If the file is protected, enter the password and run Deep.
If the PDF is extremely broken, try Deep with PNG output and a moderate scale (1.6).

2) Output is readable but text is not selectable

That is expected after Deep repair because pages are rebuilt as images. If you need selectable text, use Auto or Fast (when the PDF can still be opened in that mode).

3) QR codes or tiny text look blurry

Use PNG output (best), or increase JPG quality to 0.90–0.95. If needed, bump Render scale slightly (for example, 1.8).

4) The repaired file is much larger

Deep repair can increase size because it embeds images for each page. If you need a smaller file, repair first and then compress.

When NOT to use Repair PDF

If you only want a smaller PDF: use Compress PDF instead (or repair → compress).
If you need to remove a password without rebuilding pages: try Unlock PDF (when available) before Deep repair.
If you need OCR / searchable text from scans: repair won’t add OCR—use an OCR tool after repairing.

FAQ

Will Repair PDF change my content?

Fast/Auto aims to preserve content structure. Deep rebuilds pages as images, so the layout usually looks the same, but selectable text/links may be lost.

Does this tool fix “blank pages” PDFs?

Often yes—especially with Deep. Blank pages can come from rendering issues or broken internal objects. Deep mode rebuilds each page visually to produce a clean output.

Is the password required?

Only if the PDF is protected. The password is case-sensitive. If the password is wrong, the repair cannot access the pages.

What’s the best setting for documents and forms?

Start with Auto. If you must use Deep, prefer PNG (sharper text) with scale around 1.6–1.8.
